To stand for office as an elected representative you must be:

  • 18 years old or older
  • Registered on the electoral roll
  • A New Zealand citizen

Nominations

Nominations open 3 months before voting day.

Nomination forms will be available for the Tauranga City Council Service Centre, 91 Willow Street, Tauranga.

You need to be nominated by two people who sign your nomination form. You cannot nominate yourself for office.

Nominations must be accompanied by a deposit of $200 (incl. GST). 

You may submit a candidate profile statement with your nomination form for sending out with the voting documents to electors. Information about the rules and procedures for candidate profile statements is in the NPDC Candidate Information Booklet.

Restrictions on standing as a candidate

You cannot stand for election to both Tauranga City Council (as Mayor or councillor or community board member) and Environment Bay of Plenty.

You cannot stand for election to more than one ward or constituency of the same authority.

You cannot stand for more than one district health board.

You may stand for the positions of Mayor and councillor but if elected to more than one position, you are treated as having vacated the lower ranking position
