Food business verification services

Verifiers are professionals who will visit your business to check you are selling safe and suitable food.

A verification is a semi-formal meeting where you demonstrate how the business is complying with the requirements of the Programme or Plan you are registered under. It will involve a mixture of questions from the verifier, requests to demonstrate food safety practices, auditing of related records and also a ‘reality check’ of the premises.

While there are many factors that can influence the duration of a verification, there are three main  parts: preparation, on-site assessment, and reporting. The time it takes to do each of these will vary depending on the food safety risk, the size of your business, and the complexity of your processes.

Tauranga City Council has been approved by MPI as a verification agency for:

  • National Programme Level 1, 2 and 3 businesses registered with a different registration authority
  • Template Food Control Plans registered directly with MPI.

Note: All Template Food Control Plans registered with Tauranga City Council will be verified by our approved verifiers. You don’t need to complete a verification agreement form.
