An encroachment is an unauthorised occupation, development or use of Council administered land for private benefit, eg someone who has a property adjoining a reserve using part of the reserve for their vegetable garden.
Council is focussing on coastal encroachments between Papamoa and Mauao. The Council's target is to resolve 20 coastal encroachments per year, starting at the far end of Papamoa and working back up the coast towards the Mount.
In the 2011-2012 year 20 encroachments were resolved from Te Ara Place to Sunbrae Grove.
In the 2012-2013 year 20 encroachments were resolved from Sunbrae Grove West of Oceanbeach Road.
In the 2013-2014 year 20 encroachments were resolved along Oceanbeach Road.
If your property is identified as having an encroachment, when a LIM report is completed the encroachment will be identified in that report.
