Requests for Official Information
Under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) any person may request information from the Council.
Any request for information is a request made under LGOIMA (whether it is made verbally or in writing). The requester does not have to state that it is an official information request for LGOIMA to apply.
Once a request is made, the Council must supply the information unless one of the reasons specified in LGOIMA applies for withholding it.
Council must answer requests as soon as reasonably practicable and no later than 20 working days (although there are certain circumstances where this time-frame may be extended).
Urgent requests can be made but the reasons for making an urgent request must be specified.
Council may charge for official information in accordance with the User Fees & Charges for Official Information Requests in Council’s Annual Plan.
