Tauranga City Council doesn't provide a rates-funded rubbish or recycling kerbside collection service.
This service is delivered by private companies who offer a range of kerbside collection services for domestic rubbish, recycling and garden waste. In terms of plastics, only plastic numbers 1 and 2 are accepted for kerbside recycling.
Bins and bags must be placed at the kerbline by 7.30am on collection day.
As of 1 March 2018, Tauranga’s private collection companies ceased accepting glass for recycling at the kerbside. In response to this, Council is introducing a rates-funded, kerbside glass collection service in October 2018.
In the meantime residents are encouraged to take their glass to the Te Maunga or Maleme Street transfer stations for recycling instead. Glass can also be recycled at Waste Management's glass recycling stations.
