Temporary change to Tauranga recycling processing

Between July 14-25, household recycling materials collected from Tauranga’s kerbside service will be sent to an Auckland recycling facility while Tauranga’s facility undergoes maintenance.

Throughout the 2-week period, household recycling will be temporarily consolidated in the Te Maunga Transfer Station pit area and loaded into tubes for transportation to Auckland. During this time, the recycling will be processed close to, but kept separate, from general waste that is sent to landfill.

There will be no change to kerbside recycling services.

Council’s kerbside collections includes recycling services. You can recycle plastic containers, trays and bottles numbered 1, 2 and 5, paper, cardboard, tins and cans in your yellow-lid wheelie bin. In your blue crate you can recycle glass bottles and jars. If you have additional recycling, you can take it to the Te Maunga Transfer Station for free (depending on the material).

It’s best to limit the amount of waste we produce in the first place. If we can’t avoid creating waste, we should at least find ways to reuse or recycle as much as possible to make better use of existing materials and reduce waste to landfill.
