Council’s Community Development team was established in October 2014, to encourage and support strong, innovative and vibrant communities.
The team helps people and organisations to work towards outcomes that they may not be able to achieve on their own. It connects those who are working towards common goals and acts as an avenue between the community and Council processes.
The team works with communities to try to understand what their real issues are and provide simple, honest and easily accessible ways for the community to reach Council to talk to us about their needs, aspirations and concerns.
Amongst other things, the Community Development team is responsible for:
- Community Development Match Fund
- Managing relationships with Council’s key community partners such as the Foodbank and Citizens Advice Bureau
- Project Tauranga
- Historic Village
- Safe City
- Disability Advisory Group
- Postitive ageing
- Migrant Support
- Heritage Collection
- Graffiti prevention
