Council is developing an indicative business case looking at the future need for a 1000 to 1200-seat multi-purpose performance venue.
This venue could also include a flat floor space for conferences and conventions. The business plan will determine whether land within the civic precinct needs to be set aside for this purpose and whether we need to invest in a detailed business case for this facility. The venue would complement the existing 577-seat Baycourt Community and Arts Centre, with the ability to attract larger touring shows. The cost to develop this business case is $100,000 and the preferred way forward regarding retention of land for a performance venue will be included in the draft 2018-2028 Long Term Plan. You will have the opportunity to have your say on this in March-April 2018.
We need your feedback
But right now we need to know whether you would use a performance venue of this size located in the city centre. You have already told us that Baycourt is too small for the city but does this mean you would use a facility that attracts larger touring shows or can be used for conferences and conventions? Would you attend larger touring shows? Or hold conferences? Now is your chance to tell us!
