Food and health regulations

Tauranga City Council is required by legislation to protect, promote and enhance public health within the city.  This includes many roles, such as:

  • annual registration and licensing of food premises and hair dressing salons 
  • issuing licences to, and monitoring of, mobile vendors and fundraisers selling food  
  • responding to health concerns e.g. drinking water, food safety, or insanitary conditions 
  • swimming pool water quality 
  • noise control 
  • monitoring compliance with city bylaws

Food hygiene complaints

  • To report a  suspected case fo food poisoning contact Toi Te Ora Public Health (the Public Health Unit).   You may wish to also consult your doctor if symptoms are severe.  If you have found a foreign object in food that you have purchased please contact Council on 577 7000.
  • To report an unclean food premises, poor food handling or hygiene standards or the presence of vermin please contact Council on 577 7000 with the name of the premises and the date/time you were there.
