Litter Clean Up

Tauranga City Council supports groups wanting to do community clean ups of litter in their local neighbourhoods and public places by providing bags and gloves, contact the Resource Recovery Coordinator to organise the bags and gloves.

Council is in the middle of developing a Litter Clean-Up Event Guide, which will provide groups with all the steps and information they require to run a successful clean-up event including health and safety requirements.

All community litter clean-ups will need to contact the Parks Team to obtain permission to conduct the clean-up on Council land.

They are also required to remove all litter collected from the site. They can contact the Resource Recovery Coordinator to arrange free disposal at their nearest transfer station, two weeks’ notice is required. No waste is to be left by the bins as these can be ripped open by animals or attract illegal dumping.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful week is held in September each year. Register a Clean-up Project  for Clean Up NZ week online at

If you want to organise a litter clean up in your area outside of this time, contact the Resource Recovery Coordinator on 07 577 7000.
