Waste Reduction, Recovery, Reuse and Recycling make up waste minimisation
- Waste is a by-product of a consumer society. Much of the waste currently sent to landfills is resource that can be reused, recycled or recovered.
- Landfills can cause environmental impacts including leachate entering waterways or groundwater and creation of greenhouse gases. Burying resources that have the potential to be used again is not sustainable in the long term.
- Waste minimisation looks at how we can reduce, reuse or recycle resources that are currently going to landfill.
- Tauranga City Council runs waste minimisation programmes to help promote and encourage waste minimisation in businesses, schools and households.
