Pollution Incidents

All pollution incidents should be reported either to Tauranga City Council or the Bay of Plenty Regional Council as soon as possible.

Discharges into open drains or the stormwater system (road grates) should be reported to Tauranga City Council's Pollution Prevention Officer on 07 577 7000.

Discharges directly into streams, rivers and the harbour should be reported to Bay of Plenty Regional Council's pollution hotline on 0800 884 883.

Swimming Water Quality

To find out about swimming water quality over the summer period, visit the Bay of Plenty Regional Council's website.

For more information on the health impacts and symptoms from accidentally coming into contact with contaminated water, visit the Toi Te Ora - Public Health website

Recommendation

You should avoid swimming in rivers for 48 hours (two days) after heavy or prolonged rain. This is because the water can be contaminated by farm and urban run-off.
